Welcome to the first edition of our new ZINE series – we hope that the content helps you to experience spaces + sounds in a whole new way, wherever you may be.
INTRODUCTION
Shape, move around and pass on!
First off, to celebrate 11 years of activity [and to help out those of you who joined us more recently] we've put together 11 tracks that feel like summarizing what we are all about, including a selection of the many artists and locations that have inspired and fueled MSCTY.SPACE since 2010.
Moving right up to the present day, and a location we've long been intrigued by is the Royal Docks in east London. The site represents years - nay, generations - of [at times, visionary] urban redevelopment, housing sustainable crystalline buildings fit to house the Mayor, in the shadows of what remain of still-looming industrial era shipping cranes and warehouses.
Over the past year MSCTY_STUDIO has been working on a project to bring sonic sculpture installations to Asia's leading festival, Wonderfruit. They're the result of interactive workshops which featured our team alongside Chris Watson, Kate Carr, Sirasar Boonma, and a group of selected contributing field recordists from around he world. In this installation of MSCTY_ZINE we share some of the fruits of this process, via the soundtrack for an installation which was built and premiered at 2020's Moobaan Wonder festival.

Perhaps in troubled times, the simple and universal qualities of that which we hear around us: the elements, can help us to form a universal language to share and express our experiences with the world.

As part of the MSCTY x Royal Docks project, Al McSween created a binaural, immersive 3D experience of a journey through the length of Woolwich Tunnel.

[MSCTY_11x11] We commissioned Ryuichi Sakamoto to create a location-based piece of music for the ISETAN department store in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
To experience the track as intended, you will have to someday visit the store in Tokyo.
