AND THE LIVING IS ...
MSCTY_ZINE Summer Special 2021
There can be no denying that the times have been challenging this year, but in spite of everything we are roving between two giant global cities this summer, with fresh content exploring the best that both London and Tokyo have to offer.
The early summer was welcomed by our Studio's participation in an installation which links the 2 cities for London Design Biennale, which is now over, but you can explore below.
The season has continued with the launch of some new collaborations with wonderful partners in London. First off, with Kirk Barley and Elsa Hewitt and our pals at Team London Bridge, we produced 2 longform responses to locations in and around the iconic bridge. Thus begins this year's swim through of the life and times of London's great river, and we will be sharing more and more of this in the months to come [in the meantime please check the playlist below + keep an eye out for its expansion].
Edging a bit further into the historical heart of the City will take you to our audiovisual extravaganza from The Analog Girl + Jake Elwes. Their installation will be available to experience for some time, so it's well worth heading to check it out when you are in town.
But what of Tokyo? Well, with all eyes on the city this season, we turn to creative responses from long-term residents Carl Stone and Bob Sliwa, as well as a noh-infused reflection on time spent in the Great Megapolis from Laura Sampson.
But there is more! With physical travel to Japan looking unlikely in the near future, we've launched our next MSCTY_EXPO Zone: IMAGINARY LANDSCAPES – a place to explore rich sound recordings made by our studio and build your own world of tomorrow. Our first Pavilion takes you to the heart of Odaiba, an artificial island right in the heart of Tokyo's Olympics.
Of course, as ever, there is so much more to share [like the latest update to MSCTY x Wonderfruit w/ Chris Watson!] but we will leave some mysteries for you to discover for yourselves.
Enjoy exploring, and stay hydrated.
